Wikki Tourists FC continued their perfect start to the 2024/25 NNL season with a commanding 2-0 victory over Barau FC Kano at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
The Bauchi Elephants struck early, forcing an own goal from Barau FC in the 18th minute after sustained pressure. Despite controlling much of the first half, the scoreline remained 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Technical Adviser Abdu Maikaba’s tactical changes boosted the team’s momentum. The decisive moment came in the 68th minute when John Taiwo was fouled in the box. Last week’s Man of the Match, Imamu Bala Magaji, stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, bringing his league tally to two goals.
Taiwo’s outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award, further cementing his impact on the team’s success.
The win propels Wikki Tourists to the top of the Northern Conference C table with six points and four goals from two matches. Post-match, Coach Maikaba praised his team, saying:
“It was a great performance. We’ll keep building on this momentum and addressing areas for improvement. With prayers, patience, and the support of our fans, we aim to secure promotion to the NPFL next season.”
Wikki Tourists now turn their attention to an away fixture against Mighty Jets in Jos on December 21, 2024.
